Sharing a VPN Connection Through an Ethernet Cable

Learn how to use ApexGuard

Get started and stay protected

Before You Start

  • Ensure your Windows PC is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
  • If using Ethernet for the internet connection, you’ll need a second Ethernet port for the device you’re sharing the connection with:
    • For desktops, consider adding a second Ethernet card.
    • For laptops, use Wi-Fi for the internet connection and reserve the Ethernet port for the shared device.

Steps to Share a VPN Connection Over Ethernet

  1. Open Network and Sharing Center:
    • Right-click the network icon in the system tray and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select Change Adapter Options:
    • You’ll see a list of network interfaces, including:
      • Your internet connection.
      • The interface for the device without a VPN.
      • The TAP adapter for the ApexGuard app.
  3. Configure the TAP Adapter:
    • Right-click TAP-ApexGuard Windows Adapter and select Properties.
    • Switch to the Sharing tab.
    • Check Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.
    • Choose the interface you want to share the connection with and click OK.
  4. Connect the device via Ethernet:
    • Once the Ethernet interface is identified, connect to ApexGuard using the app.
    • Your VPN connection is now shared!
