Sharing a VPN Connection Through an Ethernet Cable
Before You Start
- Ensure your Windows PC is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
- If using Ethernet for the internet connection, you’ll need a second Ethernet port for the device you’re sharing the connection with:
- For desktops, consider adding a second Ethernet card.
- For laptops, use Wi-Fi for the internet connection and reserve the Ethernet port for the shared device.
Steps to Share a VPN Connection Over Ethernet
- Open Network and Sharing Center:
- Right-click the network icon in the system tray and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Change Adapter Options:
- You’ll see a list of network interfaces, including:
- Your internet connection.
- The interface for the device without a VPN.
- The TAP adapter for the ApexGuard app.
- You’ll see a list of network interfaces, including:
- Configure the TAP Adapter:
- Right-click TAP-ApexGuard Windows Adapter and select Properties.
- Switch to the Sharing tab.
- Check Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.
- Choose the interface you want to share the connection with and click OK.
- Connect the device via Ethernet:
- Once the Ethernet interface is identified, connect to ApexGuard using the app.
- Your VPN connection is now shared!
